The Role

The Production Plant Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of manufacturing operations at the Commercial Print Facility. This hands-on leadership role effectively and efficiently manages the development and direction of the operational team to meet business goals, safety requirements, delivery needs, and quality specifications at maximum efficiency and minimum cost. This role works closely with the production teams and management group to accomplish operational objectives by formulating and executing manufacturing strategies, people-oriented management philosophies, and health and safety practices, and also participates in the improvement and optimization of production processes in general.

Location

This position is based in Ville St-Laurent, with a total of approximately 85 employees.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Passionately assume ownership for the commercial print operations; providing leadership and direction for manufacturing initiatives; and fostering a customer-centric culture of collaboration, performance, and reliability
  • Ensure that safety is made a priority and all employees and managers/supervisors are abiding by all Health and Safety regulations
  • Set up and/or monitor the various scoring metrics for manufacturing operations against goals, including but not limited to efficiency, safety, waste management, on-time delivery, cost control, etc. to ensure that progress is being made; meet and review regularly with operation unit leaders; and implement corrective actions where necessary
  • Refine and maintain systems and processes to insure accurate and efficient data and documentation are maintained in operations Plan and implement process improvements that enhance operational performance
  • Manage, develop, direct, and evaluate direct reports and production teams, including attraction and nurturing of talent:
  • Contribute to improving hiring strategies, onboarding programs, and retention plans
  • Ensure new employees are trained and oriented appropriately and implement follow-up sessions as necessary
  • Identify relevant training needs & opportunities and develop programs to support skills development initiatives and succession planning
  • Assist in Production Planning and oversee workflow to meet required deliveries
  • Liaison with Sales, Finance, HR, and other departments to facilitate resolution of issues/problems between business units and/or departments
  • Provide cost analysis as required by management
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

Candidate Profile

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role within the commercial printing industry
  • Fluently bilingual in French and English (oral and written)
  • Technically savvy – solid understanding of production capabilities and technologies
  • Strong leadership, people management, and engagement skills in a manufacturing environment with a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in MSOffice required
  • Exceptional leadership skills to set direction and lead the team, while being a hands-on manager
  • Encouraging and energetic attitude to foster a positive work environment and promote excitement
  • Willingness and ability to coach and develop their team and empower people
  • Action oriented with a "Can Do" customer service philosophy
  • Process driven and able to develop or improve systems, metrics, standards, etc.
  • Proven ability to independently identify, plan, and execute continuous improvements
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships throughout the organization and across departments and divisions
  • Role requires willingness to work extra hours and a flexible schedule as needed (3 shift operation)
